Alexander Ravskyi, visual artist from Odesa, Ukraine. In 2012, he graduated from the Odesa Art College of M.B. Grekov, specializing in Environmental Art and Decoration. Then, in 2018, he obtained a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the Odesa State Academy of Building and Architecture. Alexander got a classical art education, but after graduation, he began experimenting more, developing his poetic artistic language. In his artistic practice he combines modern and classical imagery. Uniting figurativeness with abstraction, he uses at the same time a wide range of methods and techniques, and as a result, a dynamic synthesis of painting and drawing is formed.
The material for his works is water-soluble paints, such as tempera and acrylic, with the help of which it`s possible to convey more pronounced color saturation and graphic textures.
In addition to painting, he also engages in sculpture, translating his artistic language into three-dimensional form. This expands his creative approach, allowing him to experiment with volume, materiality, and spatial composition. His main sources of inspiration are art from different eras and cultures, nature, and spiritual practice.
The art of past centuries appears to him in such grandeur and perfection that it naturally becomes an impulse for shaping his artistic tone.
At the end of 2022, ten months after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he arrived in Sweden with his wife for art residency (SWAN). Since then, they have been living and working in Sweden, primarily in Stockholm.
